Upgrade of this dam is part of a contract with the Government of Gujarat for the upgrade of 4 dams, between July 1997 and the monsoon season in June 1998, involving a total of 250 fusegates.
Chhaparwadi is equipped with 83 fusegates divided into 26 sets of three and one set of five.
This arrangement provides a more significant free interval between inlet wells for a higher discharge capacity over the fusegates.
The new installation has made it possible to irrigate an extra 312 hectares.
