Upgrade of this dam is part of a contract with the Government of Gujarat for the upgrade of 4 dams, between July 1997 and the monsoon season in June 1998, involving a total of 250 fusegates.
Chopadvav is equipped with 35 fusegates divided into 10 sets of three and one set of five.
This arrangement provides a more significant free interval between any two inlet wells for a higher discharge capacity over the fusegates.
The upgrade has made it possible to irrigate an additional 530 hectares and increase storage capacity.
