The fusegate system was incorporated as part of the construction phase of the project.

The initial design called for three 14 m-wide free-sill spillways; thanks to the use of fusegates, only two such spillways were required (each 15.6 m wide).

Their wells were replaced by pipes embedded in the concrete, leading to water-intake openings.

Project design allows for the future replacement of the 1.1 m-high fusegates by 2.6 m-high modules with no change to the maximum water levels.
