Since the dam came into service in 1984, the Sidi Driss reservoir has become heavily silted, and its storage capacity is only 14% of the initial volume: 1 million m³ as opposed to 7 million m³.
The "Direction des Aménagements Hydrauliques" decided to raise the normal water level by 1.50 m, by installing 12 fusegates.
This measure offers additional storage of 0.9 million m³, equal to 90% of the current storage capacity.
Installation of the fusegates has extended the dam service life and improved the flexibility of water supply for the city of Marrakesh.
