In order to increase the operational flexibility of the Dartmouth hydroelectric dam and in this way address more efficiently the peaks in energy demand, Southern Hydro decided to increase the reservoir capacity of the regulating dam by more than 60% by installing fusegates.
These were engineered taking into account the difficulties of access to the spillway and the other specific requirements of the project.
