Three wide steel fusegates designed for moderate water head were installed on an auxiliary spillway to improve safety in the event of large floods.

Tests were conducted on a scale model at the Salford University Laboratory.

This type of installation reduced fivefold the auxiliary spillway length as well as the chute width as originally designed, without altering the reservoir storage capacity.
